Marius Steinfaust is the owner of Die Welt, an independant new-age and occult store in Fallon Heights. Born in Germany, he moved to the US with family when young and fell in love with the country. A fascination with Henry David Thoreau lead to an attempt to study politics that was derailed when he discovered a deeper fascination with the occult and a faith that spoke to him in ways that mere Christianity never did. A decade of hard work at a chain of mediocre jobs, a lot of luck and even more networking later, and he was able to become his own boss, opening Die Welt in the closing days of the 20th Century. Catering to a broad audience of new age and gothic types, the shop has become a feature of Fallon Heights.
Description
An impeccably, if slightly eccentrically, dressed man of German origin in his mid-thirties. Speaks with a soft german accent that grows in intensity when under stress, and can stumble for words when facing the truely unexpected.
Personality
Marius presents himself as an open and personable man who enjoys getting to know his customers and helping them find just what they are looking for, especially as what he sells is quite niche so he has got to know most of his customers quite well. His reach can exceed his grasp and he can stumble and fall into uncertainty and struggles for English words when faced with an unexpected issue or request.
Virtue & Vice: Charity and Curiosity. Marius believes in helping the world one person at a time, proud of the feeling of being the better man.
Connections
- Has a network of connections with local Wiccans, goths, new-age types and the occasional actual occultist.
- Knows Jack Crow as a strange but knowledgable vagrant who is perhaps channelling the archetype of the Trickster, consciously or not. Marius has no idea that Jack is keeping an eye on him and suspects he may be uragarum.
Abilities
- Occult Academic (6 dice, 9-again; +1 if related to Wicca or Political History): Marius is well-read with a deep personal interest in both the Humanities and the Secret Sciences.
- Ear for the Strange (6 dice): Though he is not fully aware of his abilities, Marius has a knack for sensing the presence of supernatural forces as whispers on the edge of hearing.
Chronicles
Under a Killing Moon
Marius encountered the four nuzusul when they came to Die Welt looking for answers about their strange dreans. He performed tarot readings for them, recieving the same strange reading for all four seekers even with extreme actions taken to prevent any tampering. He was understandably unsettled by this occurrance and called on his contacts to try and find information and assistance, though nothing came of this before the four found their own answers, except the witch bottle which he gave to Atlas.
