Morrigan Rises-Above-Demons is the leader and founder of the Wardens werewolf pack, a self-styled warrior-queen who dreams of a better Blackmouth.
Background
She was an inner-city kid living in a rundown area that was too white to be a ghetto but might as well have been one, a place where hope died and people learned to keep their heads down. The Change helped her find herself, made sense of the things she had seen see that others could not, and saved her from a life of mediocrity and self-loathing. Her gift for seeing the dead drew the gaze of the valkyrja, and she join their mot and turning her spear on the ghosts that haunted her.
The vampires and their bloody night wars destroyed the first pack she joined and left her feeling broken and alone again until she met Jack Crow, in a similar situation and haunted by his own ghosts. The two and three other wolves fell in together and fought back against the leeches, carving their own place around the strange locus in the abandoned subway station near where she grew up. This time it felt like home, and Morrigan wanted to make something greater of it. To make something good of the place, cut out the cancers that ate away her childhood and make something good and green there. And to Hunt whatever might wrong this place and the memories it carried.
Description
Morrigan is built like a sculpture in motion - tall, iron-hard and decorated with scars - with intense, unblinking blue eyes and the the premature silver-white hair of the valkyria. She cares nothing for style, dressing in nondescript and fading athletic clothing because it does not impede her ability to move or fight.
Storytelling Hints
Morrigan is direct and intense, speaking plainly or not at all. She commands and demands respect and has no time for shirking or prevarication, only letting her guard down when around her packmates. All this is fuelled by a need to carve her territory into somewhere safe, no matter how many dirges she must sing for friends and loved ones lost along the way.
Anchors: Relentless and Maker - She dreams big and she will let stop nothing stop her from achieving what she wants.
Chronicles
Under A Killing Moon
Morrigan and Jack first met Atlas, Jerome and Michael after Michael's First Change. She brought them, and Winters in turn, into the shadow of the Pack to protect them and the world from each other until the new wolves had learned how to handle their new existences. Along the way she has grown quite fond of of having them around and has tried to teach them as much as she can, though she knows she's not the best educator, especially for so many wolves in such a close-knit and willful group.
Jack's concerns about the Trees, especially the unsettling information he gathered from other ithaeur using his own networks, lead Morrigan to user her connections with Conall Stonetalker and the Valkyria Mot to try and bring the fractured packs of the area together for the first moot in a decade. Perhaps facts and a looming threat may overcome the deep-rooted divisions between the wolves of Blackmouth.
Connections
- The Wardens: The pack she put together to the aftermath of the Nights of the Broken Moon.
- Vic Kinsella: Her cousin, the only member of her mortal blood that still counts as family.
- Dominic Fang-Breaker: An old friend, who did not join the Wardens due to bad blood between him and Jack Crow.
- Old Man Autumn: Her mentor in the Hunters in Darkness, distant due to his endless travelling.
Abilities
- Warrior-Queen (8 dice, 9-Again): Even without calling on her Uratha gifts, Morrigan is a highly competent and dangerous fighter. She prefers fists and explosive, relentless aggression against lesser foes, saving her spear and claws for actual threats.
- Death-Wise (6 dice, 9-Again): Morrigan has been able to see the dead since even before her First Change, and knows more of their secrets and ways than any living being should.
