What Happened

• Titania, Vánagandr, Wotan and Kassandra each arrived independently at the address of a Dr Candace Ponder, each investigating an unpleasant death.
• The four shared intelligence and realised that the deaths they were each investigating were identical except for for minor details. Vánagandr was initially suspicious of some sort of connections between the victims when discussing the matter with Titania, but examination under magic revealed no direct sympathetic connections between Madeleine and Adam.
• Once information was shared, the four proceeded to the building where Dr Ponder's practice was located, a run-down and otherwise empty building in Fallon Heights. After being buzzed in with some difficulty by the receptionist, they reached the office which appeared even more run-down and dishevelled than the rest of the building.
• The receptionist appeared stilted but otherwise normal, but interrogation by Titania and examination by magic revealed that something was wrong with her. She did not have a name. The reception room was spartan besides its untidiness - no computer, loose paper filing, and shelves of strange, sinister jars and other objects that resonated with mental fragments in Vánagandr's mage sight.
• Dr Ponder was apparently in a meeting. Others seemed prepared to wait but Vánagandr compelled the receptionist to go to the Dr.
• Kassandra found a large covered cauldron in one room, seemingly made of the same material as the sinister jars and resonant with magical energy.
• Vánagandr followed the receptionist to the doctor's consulting room. Inside, the doctor was in intense concentration over a comatose patient, apparently using some sort of magic to cut out part of the patient's self. Vánagandr interrupted the doctor and raised the alarm, aghast at the monstrous butchery she was seeing.
• A struggle began. Vánagandr counterspelled the doctor's attempt to weave a Space effect, while Wotan engaged her physically and Titania rescued the comatose patient. Kassandra joined the fray with an improvised weapon - one of the sinister jars - but found it was loosely sealed and when she hefted it to use as a weapon, it opened. A barely formed entity of rage poured out of containment, resisting Dr Ponder's attempts to re-bind it...

Plot Developments & Facts Discovered

• Four people - one known to each of Kassandra, Vánagandr, Wotan and Titania - all died by suicide. In each case, the person could not stop laughing and all expressed that they could not feel a specific emotion. All four had been seing an unlicenced therapist named Dr Candace Ponder. None of the four victims had any connection except through Dr Ponder.
  • Madeleine, a regular at the Velvet Room, had said that "I couldn't feel sad even if I wanted to. I can't tell if I want to."
  • Adam
• Someone, likley Dr Ponder, has been removing parts of human minds or souls and storing them in vessels.
• Dr Ponder appears to be a mage of some kind, likely a Mastigos based on her use of Mind and attempted use of Space magic.
