Blood Beats and Legendary Beats
The Arcane Beats used in Mage the Awakening 2nd Edition are an interesting concept. They are a mechanical benefit for acting into the themes of the mystic and occult paths walked by Mages and at the same time a way to support a broader character by making some advances only possible using Arcane Experience and others only possible without it. Blood Beats are briefly mentioned in Vampire the Requiem 2nd Edition but only as a Twist for Chronicles where Blood Potency advances rapidly. These house rules expand that idea to make them akin to Arcane Beats - a reward for acts that embrace the themes and nature of the vampire.
Optional Rule: Blood Beats
The power of vitae thickens and grows as it is used. A kindred who often calls upon the power of their blood and their beast gains strength from familiarity. Vampires gain a different type of Beat called "Blood Beats" which become Blood Experiences, alongside regular Beats. Blood Experiences help a vampire grow their dark powers.
As with normal Beats, a few major criteria allow you to gain them. And like normal Beats, a given category can only net a single Beat per scene.
- When failing a Discipline roll, you may make it a dramatic failure and take a Blood Beat.*
- When your character must make a Detachment roll take a Blood Beat.*
* This replaces the regular Beat that you would normally get.
