What Happened
- Flashback to the trip to Blackhurst, talk about Deed Names and warning of not speaking out of turn once things began.
- The Moot began. News was shared, including about the Trees in Merritt. Tensions rose when Atlas talked back but were reduced to a simmer with dark words about these nuzusul being untrained.
- Morella Doomwise was very interested in the dreams that the four had been experiencing, having had dreams of a related nature.
- The elders and pack leaders withdrew to talk about what to do next. Atlas and Rojas snuck close enough to overhear some of them.
- The rest of the moot broke into little groups chatting among themselves while the alphas sequestered themselves. Jerome enjoyed some beer and bear with Old Man Autumn, Tom Walker, and Caleb of the Tunnelrunners. One of the Ramblers spoke to Michael aboutt the Words. Winters tried to disillusion a bright-eyed teen. Atlas eventually slipped away from near the alphas to talk with the Nighteyes.
- The alphas returned. Something would be done, but due to the risk these Trees could pose it was decided that those not yet sworn to a Tribe would be trained and inducted quickly. People chose who to join and the rest of the moot continued, leaving Winters alone and forgotten. A figure approached them and offered another way...
Plot Developments & Facts Discovered
- Deed Names: Deed names are important to werewolves, especially more tradition-minded ones, and especially when dealing with spirits, who have difficulty comprehending human names due to the lack of symbolic meaning and personal significance. Werewolves usually earn their first deed names when they join a larger group like a Tribe, as a recognition of their deeds and their talents, but can change over time with actions and associations.
- Dreams: Morella Doomwise, an elder of the Bone Shadows and seer, had also been experiencing strange dreams of broken trees and bleeding words recently. She saw a connection with those experienced by the four dream-haunted wolves. Her interest helped assuage doubts some, like Neil McCracken had about the stories the Wardens brought to the Moot. Morella was also curious that there were four wolves experiencing these dreams and that none of them were Cahilith, the auspice most often associated with dreams. The worrying possibility was raied that there may have been one more of their number and something had happened to them.
- The Trees: Jack described the Tree as a Tunguskan, something from beyond the Warden Moon, a rare and alien thing akin to the entity that had decimated and corrupted a great swathe of Colorado. Few present understood the term, and those that did were concerned.
- As things from Outside, such beings are inherently dangerous and corruptive to any spirit or part-spirit being, including werewolves. The risk is greatest for those without a bond to one of the Firstborn, so all of the unsworn nuzusul are to be brought into a Tribe.
- Semira Rider brought word that Gurdilag, the tunguskan entity that devoured the Shadow of Denver in the 1970s and had been slowly consuming the rest of Colorado, had finally been destroyed. An Iron Master Elodoth had found its Ban in strange depths of the Shadow and the werewolves of Colorado had finally destroyed it. The cost had been high and the Shadow was in ruins, but there was hope and a bloody rush had begun to claim the territory left empty.
- Seamus McCracken shouted down Atlas for talking back during the moot, only to end up violently silenced by his own father for going too far. He was later seen talking to Miranda and Dennis.
- Winters met Edy Marcano, a very recently Changed werewolf who seemed incapable of being brought down from a high of curiosity and fascination with everything. Edy had been found by Semira amid spirit turmoil in west Massachusetts, and was travelling with her to learn and find a place in this new wider, wierder world.
- Atlas talked with the Nighteyes, a small pack of four young Iron Masters around her own age, who had claimed territory in the Ladder, a rough part of south Blackmouth. They had a secretive and reverential attitude toward Hecate, who they referred to as the Masked Queen or the Lady of the Night.
- Most of unsworn and newly Changed wolves chose to join one of the Tribes. Neil McCracken ordered that they should be trained properly, not just by members of their pack.
- Michael and Thomas McCracken chose to join the Blood Talons. Semira pointed out that by McCracken's decree, these new inductees could not be taught by the McCracken Clan, and ended up volunteering herself and Dominic to teach them.
- Jerome chose to join the Hunters in Darkness, to be taught by Old Man Autumn.
- Atlas chose to join the Iron Masters, to be taught by Tom Walker.
- Lucas, the quiet country boy member of the Tunnelrunners, chose to join the Bone Shadows, to be taught by Morella Doomwise.
